A question about toasting pecans and...?

other nuts. Which is the best method, how long do I toast them and is there a difference in how you roast different nuts? Like is there a difference between toasting an almond or a pecan? Also, why should I toast the pecan if it's going to be baked in the oven anyway. Is there a real difference in flavor? Thanks.
