What does underdog mean?

If a guy calls him self the under dog, wants to fight his best friend who is like a brother to him because he's a player and is with this gurl that he doesn't even care about, yet he has a crush on his brothers girlfriend, wants to be with her but doesn't know if she likes him in return.
