When you say "the first thing" you are uming that time has a starting point. But this is just an umption. The idea that nothing can exist just of ts own accord is just an umption as well. We do not really know much about the nature of "existence". The fact that we don't know should not mean we should wildly speculate, and not irritate us either. Knowledge expands, but there will always be things we do not know.
