Has Sam Elliot won any acting awards?... should he?...?

Watching Ghost Rider and The Golden Comp in close succession reminded us that Sam Elliot has built an archetypical character, that has only improved and become more detailed as he gets older, and the film world will be left with a mighty large gap when he is no longer able to fill the role. I am wondering if he has recieved any awards for these roles, and how many people agree or disagree that this is an important archetype to have available, or is he just a typecast anachronism?
