Scared to fly.?

I'm flying to California soon and I'm absolutely terrified. My stepmother was in a plane crash several years ago and my uncle worked for the gov't dealing with planes and he won't fly. He takes a train everywhere. This scares me b/c he's an insider who actually knows what's going on. I want to know if there are any tips you can give me so I won't be so scared. I'll probably end up sleeping on the plane, b/c I have to leave at 5, so I'll be up at 3 getting ready...But in case I can't sleep, what should I do so that I don't completely freak?
