Do you think this patient had an MI? Explain why or why not. What alternative diagnosis might be?
On thanksgiving day around 2:00 PM you are called out to transport a slightly overweight 40 year old male to the ER. The man is complaining of shortness of breath, burning in his chest and sweating. The symptoms began during the annual family touch football game but he was good during the morning and during the thanksgiving meal. The patient shows a normal ECG and normal cardiac enzymes and electrolytes levels. The man is given nitro and admitted to the hospital for ovservation and further blood tests. After 24 hours the patient is released with no change in his ECG, cardiac enzymes or electrolytes levels. Do you think the patient had an MI? Explain why or why not? Be sepecfic about ECG information and electrolyte information. What would be an alternative diagnosis if you don't think he had an MI?
